5450 8888. This is the number to call in times of turmoil, when emotions such as fear, anger or sadness become overwhelming. This listening service, offered free of charge to teenagers aged 12 and over and to adults, embodies the new identity of Action for Integral Human Development and remains available until September 2024. Since January, Konekte has been committed to promoting and improving emotional and social well-being.
As a reminder, the social enterprise founded in 2005 works by offering training, services and programs in schools, while developing resources to foster well-being and quality of life, thanks to the financial support of the MCB Foundation. “This move to Konekte reflects our aspiration to connect with ourselves and others… We firmly believe in the strength of bonds and the importance of forging them with others,” says Emilie Rivet Duval, a doctor in clinical psychology. In addition, as she explains, the aim is also to raise awareness among Mauritians and to play down the term mental health. “By joining forces, we can build an environment where mental health promotion becomes one of the national priorities, to create a Mauritius where every citizen feels cared for and supported.”
