In July, we introduced you to the AWANAM social movement, its concept and philosophy dedicated to making the island’s unique lifestyle resonate in every Mauritian. This month, we take a look back at one of its flagship community events, AWANAM Crossing.
Planned by the Preskil Kiteboarding and Wingboarding School, managed by Jérôme Bonieux, this sea race saw some sixty participants in windsurfing, wingfoil and kitesurfing events come together on August 6 in the Pointe d’Esny lagoon, to experience a perfect AWANAM day! “The aim was to reunite all wind lovers after several years. Thanks to AWANAM, we were able to bring together all enthusiasts, whatever their medium – kite, wing or wind – into one big family. The atmosphere was incredible, and we can’t wait for the next one!” commented organizer Christophe Tyack, who came second in the windsurfing competition, behind Julien Maurel, while Benjamin Hardy finished first in the junior category. In kitesurfing, Allan Ricot took first place, alongside Celilo Yonb in the women’s category. Laurent Lebelloch won the wingfoil event.
