Cycling in the spotlight!

It’s been a busy few weeks for cycling, with two major races organized. The first was the fifth edition of the Beau Vallon MTB Challenge, which was once again full of thrills, followed by the Skoda Tour de Maurice and the Mauritius Classic Courts Mammouth, two competitions organized by the Mauritius Cycling Federation.

The MTB Challenge, an eco-responsible sporting event held on May 13 and 14, was another great success, showcasing the natural beauty of the island’s south-east. This year’s winners were Alexandre Mayer in the men’s category and Aurélie Halbwachs in the elite women’s category (aged 16 to 39). Giovanni Gonthier from Reunion and Nadine Van Rensburg took first place in the Masters 2 (40-49) category, while Christophe Harel and Valérie Gérard both won the Masters 3 (over 50). Finally, Mark Kirkby came first in the Buffalo category (+ 90 kg).

In June, it was the turn of La Fédération Mauricienne de Cyclisme, in partnership with Courts Mammouth, to offer the Skoda Tour de Maurice 2023, from June 6 to 9 (310 kilometers over four stages) and the Mauritius Classic Courts Mammouth (140 kilometers) on Sunday 11th. Englishman Archie Cross won the competition, while Mauritian Christopher Rougier-Laganne took second place on the podium. The Mauritius Classic Courts Mammouth was won by Algeria’s Youcef Reguigui.
