Fabulous Island: vintage and responsible!

Julie and Alban Macé founded the clothing brand Fabulous Island, a subtle blend of ’80s Californian beachwear and the French couple’s signature rock spirit. Previously exported exclusively to Europe and in the United States for luxury boutiques, the family-owned brand is now setting out to conquer the local market.

Fabulous Island is known for its must-have vintage sweater in recycled wool-cashmere, designed in Mauritius. “We were the first, and still are the only, to print the knitwear using the same OEKO-TEX digital screen-printing process (the eco-label for textiles) used on sweatshirts, T-shirts, tank tops… and the result is incredible! Initially aimed at 18-35 year-olds with an interest in the American vintage universe and the ecological spirit, the brand quickly turned its attention to women, who were totally won over by the quirky look of the best-selling sweater. The brand’s great strength is its digital module for personalizing items and creating pieces from plain patterns, and it even offers customers (individuals and professionals) the option of printing their own visuals and texts. As far as the local market is concerned, the company adapts and supplies a high-quality finished product at 30% less cost! In addition to collections for the whole family, the company offers genuine American caps (Truckers) and swimwear, with a series of bikinis arriving in January.

Sustainable design

“We can no longer remain passive in the face of the planet’s poor health and global warming! Here, materials are organic, recycled, GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) and GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certified, right down to the cardboard labels and cotton bags made from offcuts. In our nearby factories, models are cut, assembled, dyed… before being printed, embroidered, customized… in Bambou. In an eco-responsible commitment to eliminating notions of seasonality and overstock, nothing is manufactured in advance. “The textile industry is the2nd most polluting in the world, and we can no longer consider clothing as a consumer product that is bought, worn and thrown away. No more fast-fashion bulimia that’s killing the planet! We prioritize made-to-measure, the creativity of each individual, to shape a product in his or her own image.” In the sameupcycling philosophy, hundreds of unique pieces from high-end US thrift stores are sold on the site, at negotiated rates.

The couple, bubbling over with creative and collaborative ideas, are looking for the ideal venue that will embody their rock culture and vintage spirit, and offer you a palette of surprises and novelties! In the meantime, visit Bambou’s showroom-boutique-atelier to make your own creations, and the Tamarin Christmas market on December 9!

The brand has definitely not finished making news!
