In Moka, there’s a gourmet address that’s well known – and appreciated – in the neighborhood: La Maison du Gourmet. The 130m2 store, which has been open for over a decade, provides consumers with a full range of quality food products, innovative equipment and kitchen utensils, as well as original gift ideas, all wrapped up in impeccable service!
In the 2000s, with the expansion of the tertiary sector, the central plateau attracted a high-income population. And so, in 2010, La Maison du Gourmet was born, in the heart of Moka and its commercial development potential. This family-run local grocery store offers quality, choice and proximity to a clientele of “gourmets and gourmands who want to treat themselves”, as the founder proudly points out.
Service with care
Over the years, the boutique has expanded, built loyalty and set itself apart, notably through a catering service and a laboratory that complies with standards: separate preparation areas, controlled temperatures, respect for the cold chain… To meet the expectations of the most demanding consumers, who are attentive to a personalized welcome, the team is trained by each supplier (wines, meats, household appliances…), so as to be able to advise visitors and tell them the story behind each product.
The emphasis on difference…
“Watercress, for example, can be found everywhere in Mauritius! But here, we sell fresh lamb’s lettuce, mescluns of young shoots, etc.”, explains the manager, before adding: “To the classic baguette, we prefer the traditional and artisanal! For the more common cuts of beef, we prefer pieces such as entrecôte or côte de bœuf. And our roast chickens are all free-range! In terms of accessories, garlic presses are in vogue, as are crystal decanters. You’ll also find original caviar displays and a collection of glassware that has seduced many of Mauritius’s luxury hotels.
… and quality
Fresh or frozen, local or imported, the foods selected at La Maison du Gourmet fit in perfectly with the gastronomy of local restaurants and hotels, as well as with the cuisine of customers who appreciate local produce and attentive service. While every meat dish – cooked, roasted, simmered or not – is accompanied by a sauce (pepper, cheese, mushrooms…), fresh salads will have their own dressing, made on the spot with lemon, olive oil and other ingredients; the choice is yours! Feast on local batavias, iceberg, cherry tomatoes, eggplants and peppers; beef or salmon Wellington; sushi and vindayes concocted with the finest fish, or oysters from Oléron, placed on a specially adapted display rack to keep them cool in a continuous water circuit.
