Constance girl power!
As part of the sixth edition of La Paulée by Constance, one of the hotel group’s many wine and food festivals, the Best Sommelier competition was held on May 19 before a professional jury of winemakers, alongside Shani, our Best Sommelier of Mauritius 2022.
Anand Jevallee, Suman Jagjitsingh (both from Constance Prince Maurice), Etienne Schneider and Varsha Halkhory (from Constance Belle mare plage) competed in four tests challenging their expertise. From the identification of some twenty domain names previously erased on the bottle labels presented (five seconds per image) to that of the contents of ten glasses (four minutes), via the selection of one wine among three, to accompany the chef’s choice of cheese (eight minutes) and an exercise in decanting, service, food and wine pairing and argumentation (twelve minutes).
Varsha, shy but precise, won the competition, once again consolidating the place of women in sommellerie!
