Mauritius Telecom, a sustainable, global commitment

On October 30, Mauritius Telecom (MT) joined the United Nations Global Compact, the world’s largest initiative for sustainable and responsible business practices. The voluntary program brings together more than 20,000 companies in over 160 countries.
MT is committed to integrating the Compact’s principles into its strategies and operations, meeting the highest standards of corporate responsibility and reporting on their implementation.

The United Nations Global Compact

In 2000, the then Secretary-General of the United Nations, Kofi Annan, launched the Global Compact, calling on companies worldwide to align their operations with ten principles in the areas of human rights, labor, the environment and anti-corruption. Its aim is to accelerate and amplify the global impact of sustainable change.

ESG principles

Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) principles include actions inherent to the environmental cause, integration and inclusion. In line with its sustainability strategy, MT has made significant progress in this area. To promote the well-being of its employees and society as a whole, the Group has invested over Rs 400 million since 2010 in various initiatives ranging from the promotion of public health to the fight against poverty and inclusion, via digital transformation and governance.

In terms of inclusion

MT was the first organization in Mauritius and Africa to adopt the Hidden Disabilities Sunfloweran international program that actively promotes the integration of people living with invisible disabilities.

On the environmental front

The Group aims to reduce its carbon footprint by investing in renewable energies and sustainable technologies, through the installation of a solar farm and other ecological initiatives, for its 700 mobile sites. Its goal is to achieve a 50% dependence on renewable energies by 2026.

Mauritius Telecom will set a new record in 2023, with sales of Rs 12.7 billion, the first time this has been achieved in over a decade.
