The first documentary photography residency launched by the town of Moka – as part of its Rezidan project – has come to fruition, and today delivers a photographic exhibition entitled “Mokassiens”. This initiative, which allows visitors to immerse themselves in the daily lives of the inhabitants of Petit Verger, was officially launched on December 20 at the Telfair amphitheater and will run until January 19, 2023. A visit is a must!
In 2022, the Smart City of Moka is actively promoting the arts on the island through its creative residencies. At the end of July, the first collaborative documentary photography residency, entitled “Mokassiens”, was launched. The aim: to tell the story of Moka through the eyes of three photographers with different perceptions and sensibilities.
Over a two-week period, Laurent de Froberville, Meha Desai and Anne-Sarah Nicolin freely explored the St Pierre and Petit Verger area, documenting the lives of local residents. For this residency, the artists were encouraged to develop their own scenarios: Meha Desai focused on interior spaces and everyday details, while Laurent de Froberville and Anne-Sara Nicolin focused on public spaces and portraits.
What are the good reasons for visiting this exhibition? It’s free and open to all, it’s a chance to take a breath of fresh air while stimulating your artistic imagination, and last but not least, it’s a chance to get out and have a good time with family and friends.
