Dedicated to the world of yoga, the 100% local brand has been around since 2017. Founder and yoga teacher Nathalie talks about her holistic approach. Delphine Raimond
Arriving in Mauritius in 2015 to teach the discipline, Nathalie realized that it was difficult to find specific clothing on the island that wasn’t overpriced! The idea caught on, and she decided to launch a range (for men and women) in light, technical or mixed materials, designed for yoga and extended to fitness and sportswear. Nathalie, who designs the models, draws on the expertise of the Mauritian textile industry, local illustrators and craftsmen who weave and dye fabrics locally. The specialized brand is the only one entirely designed locally, and is even exported to Germany. While I’m intrigued by the name, the entrepreneur, who was looking for a Creole name, confides its dual origin: “In Creole, nam pur means pure soul, and in Sanskrit, Purnam evokes the terms absolute, complete… which also fit perfectly!”
In 2019, Nathalie opens her studio of the same name in Bain Bœuf, to create a wellness space, serving both yoga classes, workshops and conferences led by speakers on fasting, shamanism, meditation, anxiety… and showcasing her collections. “Pur’Nam today designates a global brand, and its “yoga and well-being” concept is evolving. In 2020, I launched online programs aimed at entrepreneurs and managers. I’m also working on bereavement management, whether in terms of physical emotions and feelings, or traumatic situations linked to divorce, the loss of someone, a job, etc. Or Yoga & mindset sessions, to accompany single mom entrepreneurs on their journey.”
