Road to Dakar, for dreams and hope!

On December 5 in Forbach, Necker Gestion Privée and RM Club announced their financial support for the NGO Rêve et Espoir, as part of the Dakar 2024, which will see the twenty-first participation of Frenchman Pascal Thomasse. Delphine Raimond

Aiming for a top-10 finish this year, Pascal told the audience: “To a friend who told me last week that it was pretentious, I replied that no… it was ambitious!” The Dakar is the biggest rally in the world, “a war machine” that mobilizes thousands of operators, hundreds of vehicles and extraordinary logistics! 11,000 km of tracks in the Saudi desert, in thirteen 800-km stages, including one so-called “marathon”, in total autonomy for 48 hours. While his vehicle will be flying the colors of the Mauritian flag (his adopted country), the driver and his young team-mate Arnold Brucy will be showing their full sporting and charitable commitment to the Rêve et Espoir association. “We might as well use the Dakar’s notoriety to communicate about what’s important to us!

Amélie Espitalier Noël, president of the NGO, said with humility: “We work on autonomy, motor skills, everyday gestures and actions, with children suffering from disabilities. The project funding will enable us to extend our certified school to accommodate additional classes, including one for autistic children. Many of our beneficiaries are currently on the waiting list. For his part, Rémi Mabillon, founder of RM Club, expressed the importance of “supporting sportsmen and women and events in which the values of effort are given pride of place”, and the group’s pride in the support given to a runner who has lived in Mauritius for many years.
