The second life of Nespresso capsules

Nespresso, officially represented in Mauritius by Scott & Co Ltd, is pursuing its ecological initiatives, aiming for an overall recycling rate of 50% by 2025.

Over 90% of the brand’s coffee today comes from more sustainable farms, and millions of used capsules are already collected for processing. Locally, they are sorted at the Riche-Terre plant, and the coffee grounds are used as compost by Farmbasket and the NGO Imove.

The aluminum in these capsules is a material that can be entirely and perpetually recycled! It can be used to make a wide range of items (bicycle frames, pens, etc.) and prodigious works of art, such as the trophies awarded to the best Nespresso Recycling Program members last February, created by the committed Lebanese artist Rula Koenig, who was also exhibiting her incredible personal collection!
